Saint-Jérôme | Between Nature, Culture, and Innovation
A Hub of Cultural Activities and Outdoor Adventures
Created in 2002 following the merger of the towns of Bellefeuille, Lafontaine, Saint-Antoine, and the former city of Saint-Jérôme, the city of Saint-Jérôme, the regional capital of the Laurentides, has everything to offer for those wishing to settle, study, have fun, or work there.
Located 30 minutes from Montreal and 15 minutes from the ski slopes of Saint-Sauveur, Saint-Jérôme is a true city of possibilities.
Its inhabitants are called Jérômiens. Saint-Jérôme is currently ranked 14th among cities in Quebec in terms of population, with over 80,000 inhabitants. It is the largest municipality in the Laurentides region in terms of population. A city of services, Saint-Jérôme is the seat of several government organizations for the Laurentides region and also has higher education and artistic institutions in the downtown area.
Financial Assistance and Programs Available for the Citizens of the City of Saint-Jérôme
As part of the MRC de la Rivière-du-Nord, you could benefit from various home improvement programs.
Rénorégion
A program that encourages owner-occupants to undertake renovation work to correct major defects in their home, such as structural, plumbing, or insulation problems. This grant can cover up to 95% of the recognized cost for the eligible work, without exceeding $20,000. However, this amount can reach up to $25,000 for households with an income equal to or less than the NRA.
Rénovillage
A program that supports owner-occupants of a single-family house or a building comprising up to two dwellings, one of which serves as your primary residence, in carrying out repairs to correct serious defects in their rural home. Reserved for residents of eligible territories, this grant can cover up to 90% of the eligible costs, without exceeding $10,000. For more information, please contact the MRC.
Home Adaptation
The Home Adaptation Program (PAD) aims to enable a person with a disability to perform daily activities in their home, thus promoting their stay at home. It provides financial assistance to the homeowner for the execution of eligible adaptation work that meets the needs of the disabled person, such as remodeling a bathroom or widening door frames.
Purchase and Installation of a Charging Station
If you are the owner or tenant of a new or used electric vehicle, you can benefit from financial support of $100 for the purchase of a 240-volt home charging station.
Financial Assistance for the Purchase of Sustainable Feminine Hygiene Products
To promote the use of sustainable feminine hygiene products and reduce the volume of materials directed to the landfill, the City of Saint-Jérôme has set up a grant program for sustainable feminine hygiene products.
Purchase of Cloth Diapers
To bring a child to cleanliness, a family uses 7,000 disposable diapers, which take between 200 and 500 years to decompose completely. Incredible, isn't it? Out of concern for the environment, the City of Saint-Jérôme offers financial assistance for the purchase of cloth diapers.
A Brief Overview of Saint-Jérôme's Parks
- The City has more than 115 parks covering a total area of approximately 4,000,000 m², equivalent to nearly 670 football fields.
- 35 of these parks are dedicated to the conservation and enhancement of nature.
- In recent years, the City has developed 8 neighborhood natural parks, the largest and most well-known of which is the Lac-Jérôme natural park.
- Other parks are currently under construction and are included in the master plan for parks.
Of course, the Rivière-du-Nord regional park and the linear park Le P'tit Train du Nord are also major attractions in Saint-Jérôme. It is the starting point of this 200-kilometer bike path to Mont-Laurier in the north and 32 kilometers to Bois-des-Filion in the south. It is the longest linear park in Canada offering activities in all four seasons.
